Welcome to the Sumac Cottage.

The structure started in the early 1800s as a single room, before being pieced onto considerably over the years. The beautiful Cottage-Orne latticework on the front was added in the 1840s.

Most of the rear of the home was later half-demolished before being abandoned for nearly a decade. When Aaron bought it, it was missing its front porch and had no exterior back wall.

This cottage has been home to a jeweler and amateur astronomer, before beginning its new life as the Sumac Cottage.

Work began on the Cottage in December of 2023. It got a new, beautiful front porch, and work started on the massive 1000+ square foot deck around back. We’ve now got drywall and electrical, for the first time in decades at the cottage. Watching the cottage come back to life has been like watching a bird preen itself back to life, fluffing up its feathers proudly.

Sumac Cottage is located at 1107 South Street, which is the terminus of Market Street in downtown Greensboro. We are adjacent to the historic Noel Ramsey house and a block behind the Greensboro Opera House.
